Providing a glimpse of what’s to come, Renault is gearing up to make a lasting impression in the South African market with this upcoming model considering the dwindling unibody bakkie segment is comprised of the Nissan NP200.

Derived from the Duster, this unique offering will bring a fresh and innovative approach to the bakkie market, catering to the needs of drivers seeking a versatile and compact double cab option. Unlike the aforementioned NP200, the Oroch will be aimed more at lifestyle oriented buyers, similar to its Duster counterpart. Important to note is that the prototype displayed at Nampo was the sub-1-ton double cab option, which is the sole bodystyle that Renault is considering bringing in.

At its core, the Renault Oroch boasts a Duster-based design sourced from Latin America, specifically Brazil. With its distinctive body type available exclusively as a double cab, the Oroch is said to offer a practical and efficient solution for everyday driving and light commercial use. Powering this dynamic bakkie is a 1,3-litre TCe petrol engine, delivering turbocharged control efficiency.

The Oroch will be available in different drivetrain configurations to suit various preferences. The 4×2 variant offers an automatic transmission and front-wheel drive and for enhanced traction and stability, the 4×4 option provides a 6-speed manual gearbox and three drive modes: 4×2, Auto, and 4WD, catering to those seeking off-road adventures.

Safety is a top priority in the Oroch, with advanced features designed to protect both drivers and passengers. Anti-lock braking systems, electronic brake-force distribution and electronic stability programs work in harmony to ensure optimum control in various driving conditions.

Additionally, the Roll Over Mitigation technology reduces the risk of rollovers during high-speed manoeuvres, while Hill Start Assist prevents backwards rolling on inclines.

With its multilink suspension system, the Oroch offers an extended wheelbase compared to the Duster, resulting in improved handling and enhanced comfort. This bakkie effortlessly balances ruggedness with stability, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable ride both on and off the beaten path.

The Oroch’s practicality shines through with a spacious load bin measuring at a claimed 1 143 mm wide and a claimed payload capacity of 650 kg, making it perfect for transporting goods or tackling weekend adventures. With a ground clearance of 206 mm, this bakkie could handle rough terrains with ease, while its approach angle of 21° and departure angle of 26° enable confident navigation over challenging obstacles. To add to its versatility, the Oroch boasts a claimed towing capacity of 710 kg for both braked and unbraked loads, allowing drivers to haul equipment or leisure items effortlessly.
