This Honda S2000R is the early 2000s Type R coupe we never got

Despite having a life span of two generations, the S2000 was never inducted into the Type R cult. Evasive Motorsport’s S2000R conversion kit imagines what a Type R badge-bearing S2000 could’ve been.

Honda’s S2000 was one of the best driver-focused sports cars of the early 2000s and is still cherished to this day with massive price tags in the used car market. While it never received any Type R treatment, the closest the two-seater sports car came to its Type R stablemates was in the form of the Honda S2000 CR (short for “club racer”). The S2000 CR was lighter and handled better than in its stock form and managed to do this through the omission of several features such as radio or the A/C and upgrading the car’s suspension components. Only 700 examples of the higher-strung S2000 were ever produced. Essentially, Evasive Motorsport’s S2000R is gifted with a slew of upgrades that elevate the performance potential beyond the capabilities of the S2000 CR and more to something on par with the gold standard of Honda’s Type R lineup.

On the surface, this rendition of the S2000 features a carbon fibre lip, the front fascia from the 20th anniversary S2000 model, wider fenders, and a carbon fibre hood, to name a few, but the bulk of the changes made to the standard S2000 are most noticeable when looking at its powertrain.

The original S2000 was powered by Honda’s F20C engine, which was a four-cylinder inline-four which produced anywhere from 177 kW to 184 kW that was fed to the rear wheels. Evasive motorsports ditch that venerated four-pot in favour of the K-Series power plant found in the FK8 which is mated to the car’s original six-speed transmission. Alongside the power plant, Evasive Motorsport introduces their custom intake manifold, a Mugen Caron fibre intake, an upgraded down-pipe, and a MoTec M140 engine management system. Customers seeking more power have the option to equip more hardware to raise the car’s power output.

To complement the competent powertrain are Brembo brakes (six-piston callipers in the front and four-piston callipers in the rear), a limited-slip differential and upgraded sway bars, coil overs and bushings. The interior is characterised by bright red recall seats and a digital driver display.
